Chandler Innovation Academy (CIA) to Unveil Virtual Programming with Ribbon-Cutting
Goshen Community Schools’ leadership team and the GCS Board of School Trustees are excited to announce
a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the launch of the Chandler Virtual Academy (CVA). The event will take place
at the Chandler Innovation Academy (CIA), located at 419 S. 8th St., Goshen, on Thursday, September 12, at
2:30 p.m. in the main lobby.
The Chandler Innovation Academy was established to support the over 100 students from the community
already doing online learning, who have been enrolled in online programs with other schools outside of the
district and county. With the addition of the Chandler Virtual Academy, these students now have access to
online learning tailored specifically for residents in Goshen, Elkhart County, and beyond. The CVA was designed
to provide greater flexibility and service to a broader range of students than the existing Goshen Alternative
Program (GAP), which also operates under the CIA umbrella, and continues to serve students in grades 7-12
with flexible, in-person, and online learning options.
The new Chandler Virtual Academy will enhance Goshen’s online learning opportunities for students in grades
5-12 through cutting-edge virtual classrooms. Key features of the program include:
• One-on-one support from a CVA teacher, principal, and school counselor during scheduled class times.
• Live tutoring support available daily from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:00-3:00 p.m. during GCS school days.
• Graduates earn a Goshen High School diploma, with tracks available for General, Core 40, or Academic
Honors diplomas.
• Access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses as part of the curriculum.
• Participation in school-sponsored activities, clubs, sports, field trips, and social events, including school
dances.
• A hybrid option, allowing students to attend 1-2 in-person courses at Goshen High School while
completing other classes virtually through CVA.
Goshen Community Schools recognizes that while most students thrive in a traditional classroom setting, some
face unique challenges that make in-person learning more difficult. The CVA provides an innovative solution for
these students, ensuring they can achieve academic and social success in an environment that meets their
specific needs.
“We are thrilled to welcome more students to Chandler Innovation Academy, where they can explore new
interests and develop critical skills for their future,” said Josh Duell, principal of Chandler Innovation Academy.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to offering a comprehensive educational experience that supports
students at every stage of their learning journey. We are dedicated to helping each student succeed and earn
a Goshen High School diploma.”
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, there will be refreshments and guided tours of the new facilities until
3:00 p.m. The public is invited to join the celebration and explore the new opportunities available through the
Chandler Virtual Academy.
