Goshen High School Adds Education Pathway Apprenticeship
Goshen High School (GHS) is excited to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the
Education Pathway Apprenticeship on Wednesday, October 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at GHS (in front
of the old US33 entrance).
The new GHS Education Pathway Apprenticeship offers participants an exceptional opportunity to
earn college credits and gain valuable firsthand experience. It pairs high school students with
experienced GCS teachers who guide the students through their apprenticeship, providing them with
supportive feedback and supervision. The curriculum also provides time for GHS students to observe
the teacher’s schedule and classroom management prior to leading lessons with elementary students.
Under the direction of their GHS instructor, Mrs. Jenn Camacho, students use Zoom on Monday
mornings to attend a Ball State University (BSU) class. During the rest of the week, the students go to
their placement classrooms in GCS elementary schools from 7:30-11:00 a.m. Students initially assist
with smaller tasks, lead small group activities, or provide one-on-one support. Then, the students can
lead their own lessons and activities, which builds their skills and self-confidence.
The students earn dual credit through the BSU coursework and their apprenticeship hours. This
semester, the students are taking Child/Adolescent Development and next semester they will take
Principles of Teaching and Teaching & Learning through BSU. Students who complete the 2-year
education pathway leave GHS with fifteen college credits (from the BSU Education Department) which
are transferable to whatever college they choose after high school.
Some of the current apprenticeship students are considering teaching as a career, but there are also
students in the program who want to work with children in other capacities, such as social work. While
in the program, however, all students are building important career skills such as communication,
leadership, and teamwork, which are valuable skills for any vocation.
The full experience of the educational pathway apprenticeship allows students to explore potential
careers in education and provides them with beneficial resources and connections for their future. By
offering the education apprenticeship, GHS expands the number of dual credit courses and prepares
students for the rigor of post-secondary education. Goshen Schools also whole-heartedly believes in
encouraging and empowering the GHS apprenticeship students as potential future educators for the
district.
Please join Goshen High School and Goshen Community Schools as we celebrate the launch of an
exciting new education pathway!
