GHS Junior Kristina Petkova Breaks Records, Shines on International Track & Field Stage

Goshen Community Schools is proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of Goshen High School junior
Kristina Petkova, whose record-breaking season on the track has extended well beyond Indiana and now
includes international competition and aspirations for the Bulgarian Olympic team.
A native of Bulgaria, Petkova has delivered one of the most impressive seasons in GHS Track & Field history:
• At the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) Championships in Warsaw, she shattered two of her own
school records, breaking the 100m dash mark by just one one-thousandth of a second (12.34) and
setting new GHS and NLC Conference records in the 200m with a time of 24.98.
• At Sectionals, she set a new Sectional record in the 400m with an outstanding time of 57.05, leading
the RedHawks into Regionals.
• At the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals, Petkova rose to the occasion, finishing third in the
state in the 400m with a personal-record time of 55.87 seconds.
Petkova’s remarkable performances this year have also continued on the international stage. During the 2024
summer season, she represented Bulgaria at elite events across Europe and the world:
• Bulgarian U18 Championships (Stara Zagora) – 1st in 400m (55.71), 2nd in 200m (24.97), earning a
qualifying mark for the European U18 Championships.
• Balkan U18 Championships (Maribor, Slovenia) – 2nd in 400m (54.64), qualifying for the World U20
Championships; 1st in 4x100m relay, setting a National Bulgarian U18 Record (47.11).
• European U18 Championships (Slovakia) – Advanced to semifinals in 400m.
• Bulgarian U20 Championships – 1st in 400m (55.49), 1st in 200m (24.88).
• World U20 Championships (Lima, Peru) – Competed as the youngest athlete in the field at age 16,
running 55.09 in the 400m heats.
Currently, Petkova is once again competing internationally this summer in preparation for her ultimate goal:
earning a spot on the Bulgarian Olympic team.
“Kristina is an incredible example of what happens when talent, determination, and work ethic come together,”
said GHS Athletic Director Jim Pickard. “She’s been breaking records all year for Goshen, and now she’s
representing her country on the global stage. We are so proud of her.”
